Living in Arizona, it's easy to fall behind on fluids. Get a rough estimate of how much water you may need each day.
Estimated daily fluid intake
97–119 oz
about 12–15 eight-ounce glasses
This is a rough guide for healthy adults, not medical advice. People with heart or kidney conditions, or anyone told to limit fluids, should follow their doctor's guidance.

How this is calculated
We start with a baseline of about half an ounce of fluid per pound of body weight per day, then add extra for exercise, time in the heat and how hot it is outside. The result is a range, not a precise number — your actual needs depend on activity, diet, health and the weather.
Early signs of dehydration
- Thirst or a dry mouth
- Dark-colored urine
- Headache
- Tiredness
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
Confusion, fainting, no sweating or a very high temperature can mean heat stroke — call 911 right away.
